Shooting The Sony A7R VI Campaign at The Grand Hotel Bordeaux
There is a unique thrill in holding the future of digital imaging in your hands while being sworn to absolute secrecy. Selected as one of the few photographers in Europe for the launch campaign of the highly anticipated Sony a7R VI, I was entrusted with a prototype for exactly one day. The mission was clear: use the camera as much as possible, organize a shoot that reflects my artistic signature, and deliver an uncompromising review. For such an occasion, the venue had to be nothing short of spectacular. We chose the Grand Hôtel Intercontinental in Bordeaux, an institution of neoclassical elegance. What unfolded was a high-stakes fashion editorial, executed under the watchful lens of a Sony film crew documenting my every move. It was a day of intense creative adrenaline, where the silence of a strict embargo met the vibrant, fast-paced energy of a fashion set, ultimately culminating in a global campaign release.

Direct Flash and the 66-Megapixel Canvas
Absolute secrecy dictated our playground: two opulent suites and a secluded corridor, far from the hotel's public gaze. Within this intimate space, we crafted a fashion narrative driven by direct, hard flash, a signature technique that carves out the subject and adds a cinematic, paparazzi-esque intensity to the frame. But the true test of the Sony a7R VI was in the post-production. This camera boasts Sony’s largest sensor at 66 megapixels, designed for immaculate, hyper-realistic detail. My choice? To intentionally degrade that pristine file with a vintage, film-inspired grain. It was a deliberate, bold aesthetic decision to prove a point: true technological brilliance doesn't just produce sterile perfection; it provides a robust canvas that can withstand and elevate an artist's raw, nostalgic vision.

THE OBSERVER OBSERVED
Relinquishing the invisibility of the photographer to become the subject of a documentary crew is a vulnerable, yet profoundly exhilarating shift. Throughout the day, the Sony team captured the raw reality of my workflow; the backstage moments of me framing the shots, the communication with the model in a dimly lit corridor, and the rapid decisions made on the fly. The subsequent interview was an opportunity to articulate what drives my aesthetic: an unapologetic pursuit of editorial precision. Seeing the final campaign broadcasted across Sony’s global platforms was a surreal validation of my artistic ethos. The a7R VI proved to be a formidable ally, effortlessly rendering the textures of the couture dresses while embracing the atmospheric, grainy soul I infused into the final edit. This campaign was more than a product launch; it was a testament to the belief that innovation exists solely to serve the creative eye.
A bold intersection of cutting-edge technology and unapologetic editorial vision, captured in the secret heart of Bordeaux.
